2.8 The MIX Module
The mixer modules MIX1, MIX2 and MIX3 are used to manipulate both sound and modulation signals. These modules give you the possibility to create verry complex modulation or sound signals. You can select two main signals and a mathematical function. The selected function can be modulate by yet an other signal.

The MIX functions
At the bottom terminal of this module you select the function you want to apply to the two selected signals in the middle. I wil call the top signal A and the bottom signal B to explain the functions.
Mix
With the Mix function you get x% of signal A + (100-x)% of signal B as output of the module. The left position of the knob between A and B gives 100% signal A and 0% signal B. Turning the knob to the right position wil reduce the A signal percentage and increase the B signal percentage upto 0% signal A and 100% signal B.
-1*Mix
This is the inverted Mix function. The output Mix wil be multiplied by -1. This is verry handy if you want to invert a modulation signal that needs to be sent to the FM sections of the VCO modules. Most modulation section have their own invert option exept for the VCO modules. Example: If you select and envelope signal to the FM section of an VCO the frequency wil always increase. What if you want to decrease the frequency with an envelope signal. If you use the ENV- signal the frequncy wil decrease according the Attack phase but increase again at decay or release and this is in most cases not desired. If you set an envelope to 0 attack, variable decay, 0 sustain and 0 release and select this signal at an MIX module position A, put the knob to the left position to get 100% A signal and select the -1*Mix function and select MIXn at the FM section of the VCO the result wil be usefull.
Mult
With the Mult function you wil get A * x%B as output signal. the x percentage is determined by the knob. If you use sound signals at the A and B terminals you wil get Ring Modulation (RM) see RM at "Introduction to Subtractive Synthesis" You can select the Ring Modulated signal at one of the ES sections of the VCF, RFM or VCA modules.
Add
With the Add funcion you wil get A + x%B, where the x% is determined by the knob. Example The RM terminal at an VCO module is normaly used to Ring modulate (multiply) the VCO signal with an signal from an other VCO. With an correct setup of a MIX module you can also use the RM terminal of the VCO for AM, Amplitude Modulation. Select Add as MIX function, select DC1 at the A position and SIN1 at the B position and set the knob at 50% (see picture). If you select this signal at the RM terminal of an VCO module, the VCO wil be amplituded modulated.
Subt
With this function you wil get A - x%B as output of the MIX module.

Mix Modulation
At the top of the MIX module you wil find the modulation section. The modulation signal you select at the top terminal wil modulate the mix function dependant of the modulation depth you set with the modulation knob. In the range 0 to +, the modulation signal is multiplied by 0 to 1 dependant of the knob position. In the range 0 to -, the modulation signal is multiplied by 0 to -1 dependant of the knob position (inverted modulation).
